A Guide to Better Adhesive Application and Removal

A Guide to Better Adhesive Application and Removal

Applying adhesive can be messy business, especially if you’re just new to the task and don’t have much experience in the area of construction adhesives and sealants. We have decided to come up with this handy guide to help you get the most out of your adhesive applications. From achieving a neater bonding assembly, to removing old sealant the right way, it’s all right here!

Clean Edges and Lines

When you are applying a layer of adhesive or sealant, it can be difficult to keep a steady hand. If you use CT1, then you will know it comes with a handy nozzle for easy application and precision. However, some people still struggle to achieve clean results. Our advice is to use a strip of masking tape like you would when you paint something to help create a nice clean finish. After applying your sealant, gently remove the tape and watch as you’re left with a perfect application.

Practice makes Perfect

Before you decide to jump straight into it, you may want to practice a little first. This will give you a better idea about what to expect so that you don’t accidentally mess up on your first try. So, apply a small bead of adhesive to a different material that you can practice on. You can use it to bond different materials and work out how much you will need to complete your project.

Clean the Area First

Prior to applying adhesive, it’s important to have a clean base to work with. Take a wet cloth and clean up any dust and dirt that may be present. If the area has spare debris, you may need a stronger tool to help you to remove it such as a knife or blade. Once all of that is out of the way, take Multisolve to degrease and clean up the base. Now you’re ready to start applying adhesive!

Choose the Right Option

A lot of people pick up the first bottle of adhesive they can find at the hardware store. They might get lucky and they might not. It’s important to do your research beforehand and learn about the different kinds of adhesives and which one is right for your specific requirements. For instance, here at C-TEC, we sell a number of different adhesives. Although each one is just as powerful as the next, they are more suited for certain projects, materials and tasks.

CT1 – CT1 is also known as The Snag List Eliminator, it is used to make formidable bonds between a variety of materials including metal, glass, wood and lead. It acts as a filler, adhesive and sealant in one and is pretty much an all-rounder when it comes to adhesives.

WT1 – this type of adhesive is more appropriate for waterproofing certain areas such as the roof or your balcony floor etc. It seals, repairs and waterproofs concrete floors and provides protection where it’s needed most.
