How to Neatly Seal Your Shower Cubicle

How to Neatly Seal Your Shower Cubicle

Tired and cracked sealant can age your shower beyond its years. Replacing the sealant can give it a well-needed facelift that also protects your bathroom from costly water-damage, dangerous mould, and more. Read on to discover how to refresh your shower cubicle’s sealant like a pro.

Why reseal a shower cubicle

Replacing the sealant around your shower cubicle is a quicker and easier job than you might think. It’s also necessary in cases where the sealant is cracked and causing leaks, or is going mouldy and threatening your family’s health. Silicone sealant is often used as a short-term solution to keeping your shower water-tight. After exposure to water and temperature changes it can shrink, crack, and start to fail at the one job it’s intended to do.

Your sealant should keep water from getting in those hard-to-reach places, such as the gaps between your shower tray and the wall. However this is a common place for silicone sealant to fail and is prime for leaks. Cracks in sealant can also lead to an increase in mould. The mould-causing bacteria can get trapped as cracked sealant is incredibly difficult to clean effectively. When you start to see signs of any wear and tear to your sealant, it’s time to look for a better sealant solution, such as BT1.

Why seal your shower with BT1?

BT1 is the ultimate bathroom sealant and adhesive for multiple reasons including its:

  • Germ-busting power
  • Water and mould-resistant qualities
  • Formidably fast and effective bond
  • Incredible brilliant white appearance
  • Long-lasting and highly durable seal

Formulated with C-Tec’s innovative TRIBRID® technology, BT1 bonds woods, metals, brickwork, concrete, fibreglass, glass, ceramics, uPVC, and most plastics with the same clinical efficiency – and is up to 360% stronger than traditional hybrid polymers. What’s more, this formulation actively eliminates 99.99% of bacteria and a whole host of microbes, such as those that cause MRSA and E. coli.

Thanks to this revolutionary germ-busting power, BT1 will not go mouldy. The mould and fungal causing bacteria cannot survive on BT1’s surface. So you can be sure that BT1 will stay brilliant white for up to 25 years. This makes BT1 a far more cost-effective solution than replacing your sealant with a low-grade silicone sealant, as you won’t have to replace it within five years.

How to neatly seal your shower cubicle with BT1

It’s incredibly easy to seal your shower cubicle with BT1. Just make sure the area is free of all old sealant and you’re ready to get started. Cut the tip of the cartridge’s nozzle to your desired size and evenly apply pressure to distribute a bead of BT1. Run the nozzle along the gap, smoothing down afterwards with your finger. A top tip to get a perfectly neat finish is to dab your finger in washing up liquid, making it even easier to smoothly and evenly press BT1 into the gap. If you need something bigger to smooth down the sealant, you can use a disused credit card edge, or other piece of rounded plastic, coated in washing up liquid. Leave to cure, and your shower cubicle seal restoration is completete!
