How to seal around a bathroom sink and faucets

Whether you have an old sink that’s become loose from the wall or you have a newly installed sink that requires sealing, BT1 is the ultimate bathroom sealant for such applications. BT1 is a unique waterproof sealant based on our revolutionary TRIBRID® Technology. What makes BT1 different from other bathroom sealants is its incredible ability to repel bacteria and microbes. This means that bacteria and mould cannot survive on the surface of the sealant, making it easier to achieve and maintain a hygienic surface around your bathroom sink and faucets.

Here’s how you can use BT1 to seal around a sink:

Remove the old sealant

This step will apply if you need to remove the old sealant from around your sink before replacing it with a new sealant. You can use Multisolve from C-Tec to help remove old sealant and adhesive from around the sink. This non-aggressive multi-purpose solvent removes all traces of adhesives and sealants safely. It comes in a handy 200ml and 500ml aerosol and is very easy to use. Just spray the Multisolve onto the desired surface and within seconds, it gets to work leaving the old sealant around your sink and faucets ready for treatment. Multisolve leaves no oily film behind, which helps to reduce labour time. Plus, it’s the safest and cheapest solution available, making it an instant favourite with professionals in the plumbing and construction industry (to name a few!)

Apply BT1 bathroom sealant

When you’ve successfully removed the old bathroom sealant, you’re ready to apply the BT1 sealant. You’ll need to cut the nozzle to the desired diameter before application. Apply the sealant around the top edge of the sink to create a clean line. You can also use BT1 to seal around the taps/faucets if required. If you have trouble creating a straight line where required, you can use painter’s tape or masking tape next to the sink to help guide you when applying the sealant. Make sure that there are no gaps in the finished bead. If you notice any, re-apply some more sealant to the area.

Smooth out the sealant

After you’ve sealed around the bathroom sink and faucets, it’s time to finish the seal. Again, you can use Multisolve to help with this. You can then use a tool for caulk tooling or even your finer. All you have to do is glide it over the sealant you just applied to help smooth it out to achieve a professional finish. Once the sealant has cured, the sink has been successfully sealed and is ready for normal use.

Sealing around a bathroom sink has never been easier than with BT1. This new revolutionary bathroom sealant and adhesive is scientifically proven to reduce bacteria by up to 99.99%, which is why it’s perfect for use in the bathroom where bacteria and mould tend to thrive. When you use BT1 to seal your sink, it creates a unique durable compound with high elasticity. It can even be used for larger applications such as bonding shower panels without needing any extra mechanical fixings.
