How to stick Glass to Glass? – Good question. This is so frequently asked by trades and D.I.Y, as there are many adhesives available why is the question raised? The Glass to Glass adhesives do not perform adequately or not at all, but why? The common assumption is that Glass is made from sand and after a melting process resulting in a solid mass there should be no difficulty in sticking Glass together. However to stick Glass to Glass is extremely difficult because you have to take into consideration the fact that sand is divided rock with many mineral particles. One of the particles that has a high content is silica (Silicon Dioxide).
Silica is impossible to bond and as silica is the main component in Glass it’s really difficult to stick Glass to Glass, however C-Tec have two products that will stick Glass to Glass very successfully. The reason why there are two options is:-
i Personal Preference
ii Different dimensions, i.e. large surface areas and small surface areas
The first product is our now famous CT1 unique construction adhesive and sealant. CT1 is C-Tec’s development and is a unique hybrid polymer. CT1 comes in a 290ml cartridge that will yield 9.5 metres of product at a 6mm bead.
CT1 will create a permanent formidable bond when you need to stick Glass to Glass. As CT1 contains no petro chemicals it won’t etch into the Glass unlike other Glass adhesives resulting in staining. CT1 will remain flexible which is important especially when sticking large areas of Glass to Glass due to its unique molecular formulation allowing the particles of CT1 to penetrate the surface of the Glass and then cure in a link formation, thus allowing CT1 to have the title of the ultimate solution for sticking Glass to Glass even externally. This is very prevalent in conservatory construction where a number of Glass to Glass and Glass to metal applications are required.
CT1 is so advanced in its technology that it can even by applied in wet conditions, even underwater. Can you imagine being able to stick Glass to Glass when it starts to rain! Fantastic, no wonder CT1 is called the snag list eliminator. Not only is CT1 brilliant for sticking Glass to Glass but for endless different types of materials such as metal, wood, plastic, stone, ceramics, to mention only a few. In addition to its ability to stick Glass to Glass so perfectly CT1 is equally capable of sticking Glass to almost any other material.
As outlined earlier C-Tec has two fabulous products for sticking Glass to Glass, the second is our Superfast – the king of “superglues” Superfast is a unique cyanacrylate with no solvents, again enabling it to stick Glass to Glass very successfully. Superfast comes in a 20ml bottle and is perfect for small or tiny applications but can easily perform on larger applications if necessary. Like the CT1 the Superfast will not etch or burn the Glass and will cure translucent, a big bonus when sticking Glass to Glass.
A typical application for Superfast is small Glass ornaments that break, or rear view mirrors. Many double glaziers will use Superfast for Glass to Glass bonding but also for sticking Glass to Plastic. In preparation for sticking Glass to Glass it is advisable to clean the Glass first and the perfect product for this is our CT1/Multisolve.
