Kitchen DIY: Resealing Your Splashback with CT1

Your kitchen is the heart of your home and a great place to start your DIY home improvements. There are many quick and straightforward ways to update and improve your kitchen. CT1 sealant and adhesive is a multipurpose tool that even beginner DIY enthusiasts can easily use to make your kitchen look better for longer.

As you may have spent longer in your home due to lockdown, you might have noticed areas in your kitchen that could do with a bit of TLC. One of the most common kitchen areas that shows wear and tear faster than any other is around your splashback.

Why you should use CT1 to replace old grout or sealant

This is an area that’s subjected to many different elements daily. Between dirt, grease, high temperatures, and lots of water, the grout or existing sealant surrounding your splashback may struggle to stand the test of time and start to look unsightly. This can make your kitchen look dirty or older than it actually is.

Replacing the grout or old sealant around your splashback is a great way to refresh your kitchen without doing any major repairs or replacements. CT1 sealant and adhesive makes this a quick and easy job that’s perfect for the DIY novice. It’s also an incredibly long-lasting solution and safe for any kitchen application as it’s completely non-toxic.

How to seal your splashback with CT1

To start, take a utility knife and carefully remove the grout or old sealant. Go slowly and be very careful not to scratch your kitchen surfaces or tiles. If the grout is already crumbling, then it should pop out without too much effort. Once all the old grout or sealant is removed it’s vital to clean up the area. You can use a vacuum or duster and then a damp cloth to ensure the area is ready for CT1 application.

Now, take your CT1 and prepare the nozzle. If you want a small, precise application, make a small hole at the end of the nozzle (you can use a thumbtack to do this) or cut off the end one millimetre at a time until you get to your desired size. The more you cut off, the bigger the surface area that you’ll cover.

Place the nozzle where the splashback meets the countertop and slowly drag it along the join, squeezing out CT1 sealant as you go. Then take your finger and firmly press it into the join, dragging your finger along the join in the same smooth motion that you applied the CT1. You can clean any CT1 residue off your finger, tiles, or kitchen surface using just a damp rag. It’s easy to do this straight after applying the CT1 and leaves a clean finish. Repeat this around your entire splashback for a sleek, updated look.
