Shower panels are a great alternative to tiling that give a modern aesthetic to your bathroom. Fitting panels correctly is paramount to achieving a long-lasting result that looks fantastic and protects your walls from water damage. Here’s how you can quickly and easily fit shower panels with just one revolutionary sealant and adhesive.
Why shower panels are a better solution to tiles
Shower panels can be a preferable option to tiles for three reasons. Firstly, you may prefer the way they look. Secondly, they can be more cost-effective than buying lots of tiles. Finally, when fitted correctly, they provide a water-tight solution that can give you more peace of mind than tiles and grouting that may fail.
How to fit shower panels correctly
The best way to fit shower panels is to use a powerful adhesive and seal with a water-tight sealant. Adhesive is the best choice for fitting shower panels effectively because it does not disrupt the panel, keeping your walls protected from water damage. But which adhesive is up to the job?
It’s necessary to use a very strong adhesive that will seal your panel to the wall completely, allowing no moisture to get through. For a task like this, use the ultimate bathroom sealant and adhesive, BT1.
BT1 is ETAG approved for bonding shower panels without mechanical fixings, so you can trust it to be the best product for the job. BT1 is completely waterproof and can even bond underwater, making it the go-to solution for all bathroom DIY projects. The added bonus? BT1 is two products in one: a sealant AND adhesive, meaning you can fit and seal shower panels with just one product.
Shower panels are typically PVC. BT1 bonds uPVC and most plastics alongside brick, ceramic, wood, metals, concrete, glass, fibreglass, and more with the same clinical efficiency, even in wet conditions. What’s more, its innovative formulation using TRIBRID® Technology generates a bond up to 360% stronger than traditional hybrid polymers. You can rely on BT1 to affix your shower panels with ease, while being versatile enough to apply around your shower tray and other fixings to get that completely water-tight seal. Here’s how.
The method
First, prepare to fit your shower panels by making sure they’re the right size. Then ensure your walls are clean and even. This will help prevent any gaps.
Apply BT1 liberally to the back of the panel in a zig-zag fashion. Promptly fix the shower panel against the wall, holding it in place and pressing gently to ensure an effective bond. BT1 starts to cure immediately, so you shouldn’t need any fixings to hold it in place – it should hold almost right away. Continue in this fashion, adding panels as per the instructions.
After adding all the panels, you may need to seal around gaps, such as the shower tray, to complete your water-tight seal. For this, you can add BT1 to your caulking gun and apply a bead along the length of the crevice. Simply smooth down with a wet and soapy finger to press the sealant into the gaps and finish fitting your shower panels.
